About Us
Periscope was born out of a need indie filmmakers have been carrying for years: budgeting and accounting software that’s fast, affordable, and actually built for them.
That’s the very thing I ran into years ago, and why I created Periscope. I had a low budget indie film that I needed accounting software for it. After contacting multiple software providers, what I got was a mandatory onboarding call scheduled a week out before I could even open the product to use, and a license price that was unaffordable for the prodcution.
Slow software, horrible support, no alternative — so you wait, and you pay. Ultimately, we needed a better solution, and nobody was going to build it for us.
Both products — budgeting and accounting — went through two years of development before we released these. Periscope is bootstrapped and actually built by film producers who use it every day.
We aren’t equity backed, there is no venture money, and we don’t have people managing the product that they have never actually used before.
We let our users tell us what features they need and we create it.
And we price it so an indie production can actually afford it. And film schools get preferred and discounted pricing, because the people learning this shouldn’t be locked out by an expensive license.
